The Tariq Lamptey situation, though, is just sad more than anything else.
When Fiorentina signed him from Brighton & Hove Albion
for around €6m last summer, it actually looked like a smart low-risk move: explosive pace, Serie A suits wing-backs, and a fresh environment after years of injuries in England. But football can be brutal. He reportedly played only two matches before suffering another serious ACL injury, and now both sides are apparently considering a mutual termination less than a year later.
From Fiorentina’s perspective, I can understand it:
They probably don’t want to carry another long rehabilitation on the wage bill.
Italian clubs are under pressure financially.
They may feel the experiment simply never got started.
But from Lamptey’s side, it’s tough because talent was never the issue. At his best at Brighton, he was one of the most exciting attacking full-backs in the Premier League. The recurring injuries just stopped any continuity.
