Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a major update on the future of Alisson Becker, revealing that Italian giants Juventus have made a “serious approach” to sign the Liverpool goalkeeper this summer.
If this move actually happens, it would be one of the biggest emotional shocks for Liverpool fans in years.
From a football perspective, though, I can see why the rumours are gaining traction. Multiple reports — including updates tied to Fabrizio Romano and Sky Sports — say Alisson Becker is genuinely admired by Juventus and that a “serious approach” has been made.
My view:
Liverpool should only even consider it if they already fully trust the succession plan.
Alisson is still arguably the best all-around goalkeeper in world football when fit.
Elite keepers age better than outfield players, so at 33 he still has several top years left.
Replacing his leadership, composure and one-v-one ability is harder than replacing almost any outfield position.
The one thing that makes the story believable is Liverpool’s long-term planning. The club already invested in Giorgi Mamardashvili, which naturally created speculation about a future transition. Juventus also fits Alisson stylistically and personally because he already knows Serie A from his time at AS Roma.
For Juventus, it makes perfect sense:
•they get instant elite quality,
•massive experience,
•and a goalkeeper who can transform a defence overnight.
But for Liverpool, it’s risky unless:
•Alisson himself pushes to leave, and
•the club receives a huge fee plus total confidence in the replacement.
Emotionally, I still think Liverpool fans would rather keep him for two more seasons. He’s become one of the defining players of the modern era at Anfield.
