Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, along with his younger brother André Silva, died in a car crash in Spain in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Here’s what we know:

🕰️ The accident occurred around 00:30 local time (00:30 BST), on the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla, Zamora (close to the Portuguese border), when their Lamborghini veered off the road due to a suspected tyre blowout and caught fire; both occupants were killed.

Diogo Jota was 28, recently married (around 11 days earlier), and father to three young children.

André Silva, aged 26, was a professional footballer with Portuguese club Penafiel

Spain’s Guardia Civil confirmed the tyre burst as the probable cause.

Liverpool FC, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), and clubs across Europe are in deep mourning. UEFA will observe a minute’s silence before Portugal’s Women’s Euro match against Spain.

Teammates and legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Darwin Núñez have paid heartfelt tributes, describing Jota as “extraordinary” with “contagious joy”
