A Brazilian journalist Rodolfo Gomes has made accusations saying Neymar:
is “addicted to whiskey and energy drinks,”
smokes hookah,
doesn’t sleep until 4-5 AM,
often stays up late (gaming etc).
Neymar’s camp (his father / representatives) has responded. They say these claims are “fake news,” “defamatory,” and have announced they’ll take legal action against the journalist.
Some media outlets have picked up on the “threatens lawsuit” angle. For instance, a Greek source translated from Brazilian reports: Neymar is planning to sue the the person responsible for spreading those claims.
🤔 What’s credible / what’s not
•Credibility: The story originates with a journalist’s claim, not from something verified (e.g. court document, official medical/club statement). That means as of now, it’s an allegation, not proven fact.
•Response: Neymar’s side has actively denied it and said they’ll pursue legal recourse. That usually means either there’s some truth they want to clear up, or they want to prevent reputational damage.
•No independent evidence yet: I didn’t find solid evidence yet (photos, credible witnesses, video) that confirms the drinking / gaming allegations.
•Motive / exaggeration risk: Stories like this sometimes come from gossip, sensationalism or over-interpretation. The “nightlife / staying up late” part is plausible for many professional athletes, but “addicted to whiskey” etc. are much stronger claims that require proof.
✅ My take
•I don’t think the allegations are proven. They seem more like media rumor / sensational journalism so far.
•Neymar’s legal team is taking it seriously, which suggests they believe the claims could do reputational harm (or might have gone too far).
•It’s possible there’s some truth mixed in — e.g. that he sometimes stays up late or drinks, as many people do — but the more extreme claims (addiction, not sleeping, gaming all night) need evidence.
